HCFA expects the target groups in our community to contribute to the overall development of society and work toward an increased standard of living for their families and neighbours. To assist with this, we are developing training and support for several Income Generating Activities including:
HCFA is determined that all children should have the right to an education so that they may be empowered to create a successful life for themselves.
We assist the children by providing scholastic material, such as pens, notebooks, etc., and by offering a feeding program that supplies a daily, nutritious meal to each child.
- Vegetable Growing
We will be renting a plot of land and planting a variety of vegetables using an innovative 'no-till' method of farming under the guidance of a volunteer in the U.S. This method will allow us to produce crops in the off-season when we will be able to sell them at higher prices. Participants in our program will have the opportunity to assist with the farming and learn techniques that they can also use to grow their own vegetables.
As this project develops, it will provide both food and income for the community; it will also teach the children skills that they will be able to use to provide for their own families in the future.
Goat Project
Modelled on several successful projects in other local communities, the Goat Project aims to provide one goat to each needy child.
The key to the success of this venture is that the children who receive a goat will each give back its first female offspring to HCFA.
We will then be able to provide that goat to another child and the project is then sustained by the children themselves.
The goats will provide milk for the families, and their future offspring can be sold for income.
HCFA will provide instruction to the children on caring for their goats and in the future hopes to be able to provide training on Animal Health Care to selected volunteers so that there will be help available within the community for sick animals.
- Brass Band
Our community is lucky to have several talented musicians, and we wish to support them in the creation of a Brass Band. The idea behind this activity is that the band members will be able to earn income by performing at local events and will also be able to provide entertainment at HCFA's events. Band members will also be able to pass on their skills to future members to ensure longevity of the project.
HCFA is committed to developing sustainable programs that will offer long term solutions for our community. To that end, we will be actively pursuing further income generating activities on an ongoing basis. Our future projects may include poultry, brick making and handicrafts and eventually we hope to be able to provide Vocational Skills training in a variety of areas so that every child has the opportunity to provide for themselves.
